Reflection paper 6

In the lecture The Rites of Passage, I learn that rituals are not only a religious or magic fact, but they are symbols in that they assert something about the state of affairs. Rites occur throughout our life. For example, every new years, every Christmas or any other holidays, people always celebrate because it is rites that we have learn since we were little. Rites it is like everything we incorporate in our growth and that we do not change no matter happen. And everything seems related to culture because rites part of our culture; it is kind of what we believe in and what we considered important. By wanted to become a teacher, I can say that I am learning a lot about who I am and what is in this and the several meanings of one word. Of course it is necessary to know those things because when you are dealing with students we have to expect any type of questions and be ready to answer.
According the author, Facing Mount Kenya was a document in the anthropological of literature, and was considered as a valuable key to the organization of the African society and their nature. It is not only a formal study of humans’ life, but a work of considerable literary merit. In Addition, the author showed how compassionate those people are and the values of their life.
From the lecture SITTING QUIETLY REVEALS CROCODILE'S TRICKS, you will discover different stories on how those African man acts with the wife and children and also it will give you an image of the actions and personality of their wives. Also you see in the story how a child act and his actions are so unconscious.

Reflection paper 9

Freud’s theory is important because of all the reality that his theory brings whether you like it or not. When you really think about what Freud said in his theory, you will realize that there is a part of reality in his thoughts. For example, the facts that sex is one of the drives that motivate all thoughts, emotions and behavior really have a true meaning. Because if it wasn’t for sex will we have been in this world? Whether it is human or animals all depend on sex. As human, we leave and our races survive among sex because procreation is cause by sex with make life possible on earth. And animal make us survive by giving us food and with the sexual activities among them, the survival of animals species will be impossible. The other drives that Freud talked about are aggression and by aggression he meant the way we protect ourselves in order to survive. For instance, we go to school to learn and get a better education and we compete with others in order to have a wonderful life and take of our family, our life is all about survival and competition. Humans like to compete and usually want to accomplish the best of our lives.
Freud’s theory also talks about Structural Model which includes id, ego, and superego. By id I meant everything that a new born does unconsciously in order to satisfy his or her needs. By ego he meant everything that you know how to control and, you starting to know what are right or what are wrong. Ego should be the strongest in anyone life. By superego he meant that the individual had knowledge over ethic and basically wants to analyze every situation.
Freud also mentions the Topographical Model, which talk about the conscious and the unconscious. The conscious is everything that you have knowledge of doing and the unconscious is everything else in you life that you have never experience or that you do not know about.

Reflection Paper 8

In the article about Beliefs, Values and Attitudes, I learned about the meanings of those words and their values in teaching. Beliefs are everything that you learned from your family and school and that you adopt into your life. For examples, beliefs are like your culture because they are something that will always be in your life. When someone is a little child, your parent teach you how to behave and the values of life, this what make you the person you want to be and the one you will be even if you choose to accept what they teach you or not. In school, they teach you learn about history, how to act with people around you and you learn about wrong and right and those are also part of your beliefs in life. Your beliefs are also part of your conviction and they make them be strong or weak, it depends on how you put them in practice. Furthermore, values are everything you believe in and everything you want to accomplish, it also has a lot to do with your goals and personality. Your values are what are the most important to you, so important that you could not leave without them. When someone said that you have values that mean you are a great person and that you know what you want in life. Finally, attitude is the way you act, your character and personality. Your attitude is yourself, your image and makes people see who you are and what you can and cannot do. Knowing your beliefs, your values and attitudes will make you a better and successful person in life that is why to teach your students about those words will make a difference.

Reflection Paper 7

In the article, Teaching For Inclusion I learned a lot about how teachers should act in their first meeting with their students and also talk about the diversity of students. This article also tells you what should be in a teacher handbook while teaching an individual. For example, the teacher should consider all the diversity issues like ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning and physical disabilities. In addition, the teacher should take interest in the student experiences, interests, beliefs, and goals in order to make the student have a more successful life in college. Understanding your students, make your students understand you and making them feel comfortable in the classroom should be a teacher’s priority. But no matter how hard a teacher might try to make his or her students successful, you will always find students that are undecided about their choices in life and that will go to college just to learn or just to pass the time even though they do not have any objectives. The only things you could do it is always try to teach them the best of your knowledge because there will always be some students interested in what you have to teach. As a teacher you have to make sure that the classroom atmosphere is convenient for your and the students and that you set rules for the students and make sure that you are the one controlling the classroom. Because there are some students that will try to take advantages of any opportunities to get your power out of hand, if you do not keep your control and stability over the students. Teaching is not easy and control the students could be the worst that is why knowing your students, having rules and controlling the classroom is the most important in teaching students.

Arizona Goddam!

I think this poem mean that if Arizona does not be careful on what they are trying to do it might cause a serious impact on them and all over the country. I understand that they trying to find a way to figure out illegal immigrants to get them out of this country, but still I think they could come with a better plan to get that done. Because in my opinion there will be more crimes and I think it will not beneficiate the police officers. So, I think it would be better if Arizona could sit together and come with a much better plan.

Most interesting of our American Birds.

I do not really understand this poem but I think it’s about what’s happening with the oil spill not to long ago. I think it’s very sad to read about how animal are mistreating and killing their own children. And I think it’s our fault because we people when we doing things we don’t think about the outcomes. I think it’s going to take a long time to fix this, but I have no idea on how we going to fix it. In addition, all that happens because of our ignorance.

Reflection Paper IV

From the reading of: “Culture: What It Is,” is discover how different writers find their own meaning to culture and those meanings where according to what they observed from people and what they had knowledge of. Edward Burnett Tylor formulated a modern technical definition of culture which was the classic definition. Culture for me is what we learn, what we are born with, what our parents teach us and it is also our religious adaptation. You cannot have a specific definition for culture because culture is diversity because every nation has their own ways, adaptations and have different life values.
On the other hand, Matthew Arnold's critic Tylor view of culture of being one love of perfection and the study of perfection; and he also stated that the cultured person is one who knows the best that has been said and thought in the world. There were also other definitions of culture about people style, personality etc…
The second lecture of this week talks about the second part of transformation context. This transformation context is the one that deal with our growth and with our growth comes our culture. In addition, the way we communicate, the way we act, and the theory that we put in practice. Culture is about accepting your origin and the others too, it also believes in who you are by believing in yourself first. If you do not have a culture it is feeling like not have an identity that is how important culture is and that is what those lectures are trying to make us understand.

Reflection Paper V

I would like to be one of the leaders of the “Little Rock Nine” because I will have the opportunity to express the feeling of those African-Americans student who was not consider as equal as the others simply because they were black. When you are reading about this story that happen in 1957 in an American High School, it feels so painful to think about all those mistreatments that black had to face. Isn’t school supposed to be teaching students about equality and acceptance? Didn’t church at the time talk about love and compassion for the other? So I still cannot find the reason of white men cruelty at the time and even now not everybody can accept themselves be equal to black African-American. If I was one of those students I will have felt offended, inferior and uncomfortable. Because how could I be in an environment where I am not accepted and not treated like the other students? It is like being in prison, I will not feel the liberty of life and I will see that my life is a misery since everywhere I go they treat me different of they look at me like I am a complete stranger, I really feel the pain of those students that were considered like people that were going to court. As one of those student I will protest for my rights and make the world see that as a black person, I am not different for any other nations because only one person put us in this world and he did not say anything about anyone being superior that the other. All those racist movement at the time was so unintelligent, after all the help that white men got from black in order to gain their independence. Maybe if I were leaving at that the time I will have being one of those leaders and might have been killed already because I have protested for my rights as a human being.

My comment about Lena Horne

I never knew anything about Lena Horne until today, but it is a wonderful pleasure for me to get to know about a beautiful and talented woman. I enjoyed reading this poem because it could relate to anybody. And for me, she wasn't only a singer, but a real good actress. She was a gifted woman and she accomplishes something with her gift. But now, she passed away, her name will always remember.

R.I.P Lena Horne

My comment about the Arizona law SB 1070.

According to this poem, I think it tells you that J. McNair is against this law, it’s a way of discrimination and this law will turn into racial profiling. In my Opinion, I do not agree with it because I think they should been passed this law. Let's think about the mothers and fathers that are illegal in this country, and some of them have kids; Therefore, the government going to have to send them people back where they came from and those kids will grow up without a father or a mother. And I think there will be more crimes because those kids will not have anyone to talk with them or control them. However, I do not think this law affects legal residents who are living in the country. If u know that you are legal, there is nothing you have to worry about when you walking in the street.

Reflection Paper III

Paradigms are defined as a set of rules and examples. It is all about how we recognize and understand things. I could say paradigm it is like morality and ethics, it is a way for us humans to see things as good or bad and have the courage to analyze all situations that we confront. Is there a way to explain human behavior? Yes there is because of paradigms there are actually a way to define and describe our actions and give us some type of judgment. As an author stated that the key to faming is the imposition of information on the situation, which means that fame is all the information that we got from an actions. It is the same thing I am doing right now, from all those readings I get information which I learn from them and explaining them in this paper that I am writing.
Paradigm shift which is also call revolution of science is a term that was created by Thomas Kuhn in a book that he wrote in 1962. That book was subject to describe the theory of science and it is also in contrast to his idea of normal science. According to the author, science is described as a series of peaceful interludes punctuated by intellectual violent revolutions. All those things that we discover and created in this world, we are the one that create the evolution of the word and that is what paradigm is about. It is also our perception of things, our inventions and our cultures. Culture, religion, gender, and occupation, all of them of are object of our paradigm, but on the other hand paradigms shift only deals with the scientific part which means invention of electronics or any kinds of inventions that men kind could create.
God is also part of our paradigm because we learned from time to time how to control our actions, which means what is good or not and what we should do or not. God is also part of our way of behaving.

Reflection Paper II

According to the transformation lecture, I learned and also know that transformation is everything that happens in our every day life. By the previous sentence I mean that transformation is our experiences in life, the things we learn and practice. For example, when you are a little child, your parent teach you a lot of things to put in practice like learning how to write, to eat, to talk and as you grow older those things become familiar. Even though we get older, we are still learning about ourselves and about life which make our personality. Transformation is about everything, we transform physically and mentally.
It is not only human that transform animals also have their way of growing. For instance, we could have an egg right now and a couple a months later it becomes a fly which means everything can transform from one thing to another, like the weather, plans etc… That is why Webster stated that transformation is an act, process, or instance of change in structure, appearance, or character; a conversion, revolution, makeover, alteration, or renovation. By renovation he meant the fact of repairing, alteration means making one thing to something different, makeover means improving ones appearance, revolution which is the change of a situation, and recovery which means recap from something, it could be change of religion or political view.

On the other hand, there is the transformation creating contexts which talk about self-concept, self-confidence and self-esteem. Those context are things that create our personality, it is like its part of us. To illustrate, self-concept means the way we see thing and analyze them. Self-confidence means the confidence that we have in ourselves and it make us realize our goals most of the times and self-esteem have to deal with our emotions rather we believe on them or not.

Reflection Paper I

By reading the prehistoric of human use of fire, I find out a lot of information on how fire was created and how it what used to help human survive. According to researches, fire was used by Homo Erectus about 1.5 millions years and it is unbelievable to see how useful fire was and still is. For example, they used fire in painting, cooking, and also used as some sort of light.
Secondly, I learn about the invention of wheel. Find ways of transportation is something that human created and made in practice long time before the existence of Christ. And by reading those lines I realize how important the invention of wheel is to us, since the technology is increasing every day.
Researches show that language existed long time before writing, but we cannot separate languages from writing because without language we will not have the creation of writing. Writing is not only about what we type or print, but it is about all the images, the sign and the objects that make wring possible. By reading the history of writing, I discover that before the words that we type today were created, signs were the only type of writing that existed. For instance, if we go back to Egypt we will see all the picture writing input in the walls in order for human to express themselves and make other sees their values and objectives.
Finally, I gained a lot of knowledge from those readings because even though I learned about the history of the word and everything that come with it when I was younger, by reading and writing about it make me more captivate about history. And as a pre-teaching intern, I have to know the human history because I will have top teach my student about them. To illustrate, if I have a student that come to me and ask me any kind of questions, I will know that I have the answer for it. In addition it is not only about teaching your student, but teaching yourself before everything else and I feel so comfortable knowing that I learned from those lectures.

MY BIBLIOGRAPHY

Hello Professor Mcnair, my name is Jacques Abraham, I am 21 years old and I was born in Haiti on January 17th, 1989. I have two sisters and two brothers and I love being the last child of the family. I came to this country in 2003, and did the rest of my high school at the North Miami Senior High which I got my High School Diploma from in 2007. After graduation I decided to attend Miami Dade College where I am majoring in Elementary Teaching. Since I was a little kid, I always loved doing two things, which are: “Playing basketball and also teaching kids around me by telling them what is good or bad”; However, when I was in High School I wanted to become a professional player. I cannot say that I was the best but I was one of the best. To illustrate, I was a point Guard, a team player and was really passionate about playing for the team. After i graduated I was supposed to go to Gainesville for a try out but my dad didn't want to let me go and at that time I was under his authority so I didn't have any other choices. Therefore, I decided to pursue with a degree in Education. Sometimes, people asked me: “Why do you want to teach?” Others say that this major do not pay or it is boring and I always have one answer for them: “I am not doing it for the money; I am doing it because I love it.” People might think that education is easy, but it is not, especially if you do not like kids. I know there are a lot of bad teachers out there, but there are also bad police officers and lawyers etc… In life there will always have good and bad in anything you choose to do, but I will do the best I can to be in the good category. I am almost done with my Associate in Arts, I will graduate next year and will beginning my Bachelor degree Miami Dade, but I would love to go to a bigger university so I could have an opportunity to try out for basketball. My long term goal is to open a school in my country for the kids because I think that one way for the country to go forward. I have been in the United States for almost seven years, and I done a lot of good things during those years. Now, I am working on getting my Mom to the country and I will continue working hard on my accomplishing. My favorite show is Meet the Browns and I love watching all kind of sports.
